It was the best of times…it was the worst of times. I’m pretty sure those words are original to me, Scraps. I am, after all, a literary dog. Well, to be honest, I’m a fictional literary dog. Let’s just get that out of the way right now. But I might not mention that again–I’m not sure if Mom knows. And she really relies on me. I have a pretty important role here at The Writer’s Dog. I’m barking today about a big change…it is the best of times because an ordinary scruffy little dog like me (see my picture? I’m pretty cute, huh?) gets to take over writing this blog! I finally get to woof out loud and tell everybody like it is. That’s right, I’m Scraps, the writer’s dog! The writer is my mom, Peggy Frezon. You know her. She writes those books about dogs (yay!), guinea pigs, miniature horses, and even sometimes cats. You probably know her from Guideposts, too, and All Creatures. What I bet you didn’t know is that I help her. I’m not just an inspiration, but I really help. You’ll soon see.
So regarding this blog, now it’s my turn to jump in to the fun and dig up some good tales to post. After all, I’m hanging around the home office every day, so I pretty much know what’s happening. I’ll fill you in on what Mom’s writing, book news, what’s coming up at Guideposts, and inspiring devotions too. Of course I’ll also woof about dogs and dog life. And, oh yeah, I’ll have plenty to say about my good pals Ernest and Petey. They’re my best, best, best friends!
Okay, and like any good writer, I can’t forget to wrap up the loose ends. At the beginning of this post I wrote that it was also the worst of times, right? I’ll tell you why. That’s because Mom is still at her desk, tapping away at her new assignment, and has paid no attention to my empty food bowl for…gah, it feels like hours! I’m wasting away! I’m going to have to make a racket about that. I guess I’ll go over and poke my nose under Mom’s elbow while she’s typing. She loves it when I do that.
Since I’m new, I have a few questions for you. What would you like to have me write about? Do you have any tips for me? How can I get more doggy treats?
Please stop by again soon. We’re going to have fun!
Nice to meet you, Scraps! Looking forward to whatever you woof about!
Scraps may be little, but he’ll have plenty to say! Thanks for dropping by today!

Your mom and I along with Ron are cousins so we feel really at home with your new blog and can’t wait to see what you post in the future. Have fun with this new venture….BTW, have you met you new step-brother, Alfie? He’s a real cutie, too! ???
Hi Barb and Ron! Thank you for visiting my blog, and I’m so excited you’re checking in on me. Cousins are one of the best things since bacon! I have not yet met Alfie but you can be sure I will, and I’ll be blogging about him too. Mom says he’s having a great new life in Vermont!
Hello there, Scraps! I’m Kenai. My mom and dad rescued me. Well, actually, I heard Mom tell someone I rescued her. Makes me feel special, you know? We dogs have to stick together to take care of our humans. They need all the rescuing we can do! Talk to ya later!
Hi Kenai! It’s nice to meet you! Your mom and dad were so good to rescue you and give you a loving furever home. I’m a rescue dog too. I sure am lucky. I kind of think that taking care of humans is what dogs do best. Stop by again!
Welcome to the blogosphere Scraps!
Thanks Dawn. I’m going to try my best to do a good job! love, Scraps.
Scraps! I’m so happy to meet you! I know your mom well, and she is AMAZING!!! She’s a wonderful friend and an awesome writer! But, obviously, you know that, because – heh – you’re her inspiration, right? She’s great, and I’m glad you’ll be telling us even more about what she’s up to these days!!!!
Hiya Julie! Ummm I hear tell you’re a wonderful writer too. When are you publishing 365 Ways to Love your Dog? huh?! Anyway, it’s great to meet you too and thanks for the warm welcome.
Oh, Scraps, you are the Cat’s Meow. Oops, wrong cliché. You are cuter than a chimpanzee’s smile. How’s that?
So great to meet you here. And I’d love you to woof about anything that makes you happy.
Love, Jen
